Trailer Rush: Edge of Darkness

The Mel is back! That's right, Mr. Mel Gibson is starring in his first film in seven years. The last time the Mel was on the big screen was in the movie Signs, which came out over five years ago. He's coming back next January to star in the action/thriller Edge of Darkness.

In the film Gibson plays a homicide detective who investigates the murder of his daughter, unraveling government conspiracies and the secrets that his daughter hid from him. Take a look:

The story in a way sounds like a big budget episode of Law and Order, and the trailer makes it simply look like your by the numbers action/thriller (like last year's Taken). Of course with the talent involved it could turn out better than expected.

The film is directed by Martin Campbell who has directed two of the better James Bond films ever made, Casino Royale and Goldeneye. As well the film's script was written by Oscar winning screenwriter William Monahan, who penned the excellent script to The Departed.

It has many things going for it, and I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't intrigued by the trailer, it was just a little underwhelming with knowing who's involved in the production. Here's hoping the film itself is better.
